British Sumo continues to go from strength to strength as our youth athletes prepare to travel to Tallinn, Estonia, for the 2025 Junior European Sumo Championships, taking place September 26–28.

This year, Team GB Juniors will be represented by Mackenzie Griffiths, David Tarasenko, and Ishbel Coffield, who have all trained tirelessly in preparation for Europe’s top junior event.
Each athlete has shown incredible dedication, attending regular training sessions and pushing themselves to develop their skills, strength, and competitive mindset.
The growth of youth sumo across Britain and Ireland is clear. Clubs throughout Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland are nurturing a new generation of athletes who are not only improving technically but also demonstrating the discipline, determination, and sportsmanship that make sumo such a respected sport worldwide.
Trips like the European Championships provide invaluable experience, helping young wrestlers test themselves against international competition and bringing that knowledge back to their home clubs.
British Sumo is committed to supporting and celebrating these young athletes, recognising that they are the future of the sport. Mackenzie, David, and Ishbel are shining examples of what hard work and dedication can achieve, and their journey to Estonia is a reflection of the wider growth and ambition of youth sumo across the British Isles.
As they head to Tallinn, the team carries not only the flag of Team GB but also the hopes of the British and Irish sumo communities. Their efforts on and off the dohyo demonstrate the importance of investing in youth development, building a strong foundation for continued success in Europe and beyond.
