Clan Sumo, Founded in 2022 and led by Master Coach Scott Findlay—one of only two Master Coaches in the UK—is a cornerstone of British sumo. A multi-time British and Scottish champion and former international competitor for Team GB, Scott is credited with introducing the sport to Scotland and driving its growth across all four nations.
He co-founded British Sumo(formerly the British Sumo Union) and now serves as its President and National Team Head Coach. Scott has played a leading role in revitalising sumo in the UK, bringing structure, unity, and long-term vision. He oversees the sport across the south and middle belt of Scotland and works closely with Scottish-Japanese organisations.
Scott also founded the Scottish Sumo Open, now one of the world’s biggest sumo competitions. Clan Sumo is home to top UK athletes and champions, but also prides itself on its family atmosphere and strong community spirit—making it a place where elite training and passion for the sport go hand in hand.

Southampton Sumo Club

The Southampton Sumo Club was formed in 2025 to bring the sport of Sumo to the city. Training weekly out of Parity Martial Arts and Wellness. It is the sister club to Southampton City Judo Club.

Lincolnshire Sumo Club

Founded in 2023 by former multi-time British Champion Kieron Daniels, Lincolnshire Sumo Club has grown into one of the UK’s most respected sumo communities. After Kieron moved abroad, leadership passed to the capable hands of Will Bowles—better known as “Big Will”—a multiple-time British champion and podium finisher. Will now leads the club while also serving as Head of Sumo North, overseeing the sport’s development across Northern England. The club has produced several champions and currently hosts some of Britain’s top competitors. More than just a training ground, it’s a welcoming and driven hub for anyone passionate about building a strong sumo game in the UK.

Founded in 2023 by Coach Sonny Bell, London Sumo Club was established to grow and develop the sport of sumo in the capital. Despite his young age, Sonny is a highly respected figure in the British sumo scene—an internationally experienced competitor for Great Britain, and a multi-time British and English champion. His deep knowledge, relentless work ethic, and unmatched passion make him a standout leader in the sport.
As Head of Sumo South, Sonny also oversees the development of sumo across Southern England. His club is home to some of Britain’s current champions and most technically gifted athletes, serving as a high-level training ground and welcoming community for sumo enthusiasts in London and beyond.

Founded in 2025 by Ian Burgess, Edinburgh Sumo Club is one of the UK’s fastest-growing sumo clubs. Located in the heart of Scotland’s capital, the club benefits from being at the centre of a vibrant and diverse community, allowing it to connect fighters from all walks of life and backgrounds. This unique position helps foster an inclusive environment where sumo can thrive and develop in the region.
Ian Burgess is an experienced martial artist with decades of training and international competition experience representing both Britain and Scotland. He has been instrumental in the recent development of British sumo and currently oversees the growth of the sport across the East of Scotland. Ian balances a deep respect for sumo’s rich tradition and culture with a practical approach that adapts techniques to suit the evolving demands of the modern sport.
Though still in its early stages, Edinburgh Sumo Club is rapidly gaining momentum and is well on its way to making a significant and lasting impact on the UK sumo scene.

Deep Sumo
Coach – Mandeep Singh Kundi

Location – Uxbridge, London, England

Deep Sumo is the name of the club and coach that is Mandeep Singh Kundi – The Spiritual Wrestler – and first British Indian Sumo Wrestler in the UK. Beginning his Sumo journey in Jan ’17, so far Deep is a 9x British Heavyweight Champion (Gold), 4x International Openweight Champion (Gold) [US, Switzerland, Scotland, & France], 2nd dan black belt, level 2 coach, and now a club lead.

He has represented Team GB at the European and World Championships twice, and trained in Japan at Tokyo University Sumo Club and Tokitsukaze Beya. At 44 years young, Deep is a veteran and global ambassador of the sport, passionate about community outreach work, and supports both athletes and clubs to develop their Sumo every Sunday from 3pm at Brunel University of London, by Heathrow Airport.
