British Sumo was proudly represented at the Junior European Sumo Championships in Estonia, where Mackenzie competed in both the -100kg and Openweight divisions in what was his final outing at U18 level.
Drawn against some of the toughest opponents in Europe, including athletes from Ukraine, Georgia, and Poland, Mackenzie showed that he not only belonged on this stage but could compete with the very best. His performances in the -100kg category were particularly impressive, scoring key victories over Georgian and Ukrainian rivals.

One bout against Ukraine drew major attention when referees called a mono-ii and ordered a rematch despite what appeared to be a clear win. Mackenzie handled the moment with composure, determination, and spirit, proving his ability to rise to the challenge.

Just shy of a podium fight, Mackenzie’s run showcased his excellent throwing ability, competitive grit, and the maturity to battle through difficult moments. While results in the Openweight division did not go his way, the experience provided valuable lessons as he transitions into the senior ranks.
This competition marked the end of Mackenzie’s junior European career, and he leaves the U18 category having earned respect from some of the strongest sumo nations. His achievements highlight both his personal development and the growing presence of British athletes at the international level.
British Sumo congratulates Mackenzie on his achievements in Estonia. His fighting spirit, perseverance, and skill make him a role model for the next generation, and we look forward to supporting him as he continues his competitive journey beyond the junior stage.
